As I look into my rear view mirror with 2019 behind me, I can’t help but think about gratitude. That’s the word that keeps coming to mind for me.

I started this year with sacrifice. I had just spent 2018 on a project that had me putting a lot of my personal goals on hold – mainly family and professional development. So, I started the year out by leading the training efforts one go live and then started right back up with long hours to do another one by the end of this year. This time, however, I was answering to my direct leader, someone I am truly grateful for. He specifically asked me not to put my life on hold despite the rigorous efforts he and I both knew I would need to put in to finish this project out strong.

I saw this as a gift. I didn’t put life on hold. I went all out. I celebrated my marriage, got re-elected to the board of the American Society for Healthcare Human Resource Administration (ASHHRA) for a second term, joined the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), relaunched my personal website, presented a webinar on Change Management, and gave birth to my first child…just to name a few.

I also finished out the project. I kept with it even when I was working on these other things. When we have support, we can accomplish more than we even realize we are capable of.

So, yes, I am grateful. Extremely grateful. I am grateful for the opportunities afforded to me in growing myself professionally and growing my amazing family.

As I look into my rear view mirror, I cannot think of a better way to end the year than to welcome another life.

As I look to the road ahead, I am grateful that I can see it so clearly.
